Médecins du Monde / Doctors of the world
Marie-Michèlle Ross is coordinator of Project Montreal at Médecins du Monde Canada and will introduce us to this organization whose mission, both national and international in scope, is to reach and provide care for the most vulnerable, marginalized people living in precarity. Project Montreal works to improve the health of the needy, the homeless, the marginalized and those with no access to health care, and to enable community workers working with such people to live better professional and emotional lives. The project team comprises volunteer nurses, psychologists and doctors.
From November 23 to 26, Médecins du monde will run a health clinic at État d’Urgence between 2 and 8 pm.
Speech Thursday, November 23 at 4pm.
La Nation des sans-abris / Homeless Nation
Daniel Cross, a renowned Montreal filmmaker, and Gadget, a community outreach worker, will introduce us to Homelessnation.org, a project which makes great efforts to provide Canadian homeless people with the opportunity to represent themselves and to interact with one another. This cutting-edge team has been an État d’Urgence partner since 2003 and will be active on-site.

Guy Sioui Durand
Guy Sioui Durand is a Wendat (Huron) from Wendake, near Quebec City. Sociologist, critic and commissioner, he works in the visual arts. His mission is to wage war on all kinds of “famine of the soul”. “I know that today there are many homeless Aboriginals. They have their problems, but they’ve also fled those of the reserve. One thing is certain, they all know about tents. For we Iroquois, who are the “people of the long houses”, where families bond and feast together, as for the Algonquins, for whom the big tent is a source of makusham, or celebration, the tent is not just a shelter but a communal living space. I come to participate in ATSA’s État d’Urgence as a Native Indian whose people have a history and culture of oral expression and nomadism. I will speak in the tent which will be pitched to welcome the homeless and the itinerant.”

Mohamed Lotfi
Mohamed Lotfi presents Des hommes de passage, a 43-minute documentary, accompanied by the film’s director, Bruno Boulianne. The film takes us into the prison environment, where prisoners discover and experiment with the power of the spoken word. On their island, in the heart of Planet Bordeaux, the Souverains Anonymes (“Anonymous Sovereigns”) take part in a unique, creative radio experience. Through the spoken word, they transform their world and the world beyond, while shedding new light on themselves, their freedom... and ours.
