ÉRIC LAMONTAGNE
Multidisciplinary artist Éric Lamontagne explores perception and invisibility through works that blur the line between reality and fiction. Inspired by art, science and the different ways of representing reality, his visual universe employs many styles and techniques that coexist without hierarchy.

NADIA MYRE
Nadia Myre is a contemporary visual artist and an Algonquin member of the Kitigan Zibi Anishinaabeg First Nation. For over a decade, her multi-disciplinary practice has been inspired by participant involvement as well as recurring themes of identity, language, longing and loss.

FOCUS IRAN
AÏDA VOSOUGHI
Iranian-born Aïda Vosoughi has lived in Montreal since 2014. For more than a decade, her works have been inspired by the literature and pictorial tradition of the region known today as the Middle East, and have taken the form of pictorial installations. For some three years now, she has focused her research on the notion of landscape, using materiality to illustrate the relationship between the environment and current issues.

In her current project, Aïda Vosoughi worked with the salt crystallization process as it pertains to Lake Urmia, a saltwater lake in northwest Iran. Though one of the largest saltwater lakes in the world, its rapid desiccation portends an ecological catastrophe on a broad scale.
MARYAM IZADIFARD
Maryam left Iran to pursue graduate studies in Montreal in 2011, obtaining a master’s in visual and media arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal. For a number of years now, she has explored the relations and coincidences between the physical, psychological, domestic and urban spaces she inhabits. Her artistic approach casts a broad net, with musings on migratory movements and her immigrant status.

NAGHMEH SHARIFI
A multidisciplinary artist specializing in drawing, painting, and sculpture, Naghmeh Sharifi, originally from Iran, has lived and worked in Montreal since 2009.

This exhibition focuses on the distortion, fragmentation and incomplete nature of our memories. If what remains is what has been partially erased, the resonance the past acquires comes through the visual memory of it.
SABA HERAVI
Saba was born in Iran and moved to Canada in 2012. She earned a bachelor of fine arts from Concordia University, and also holds a bachelor of architecture and a master’s in building engineering. Her works encompass the concepts of home, memory and identity, and represent an investigation of self. Using various media, Saba tries to rebuild and reconstitute her personal identity through memories and past encounters.

Why are we so attached to tangible things? Still Life of Memories reminds us that we do not want to forget these objects that are linked to the past. As guardians of our thoughts, amulets of our ideas, and trinkets of our memories, our material possessions thus constitute the silent witnesses of our life experiences.
NATIVE IMMIGRANT
Native Immigrant is a collective of artists, activists, musicians, scientists and community organizers who seek to inspire a bridge of conviviality between First Nations and the last nations, and promote the work of these communities, which are often overlooked or poorly represented in the public sphere.
Double identité
This exhibition explores how dual identity influences the creative process and personal life of a number of Montreal-based artists. Dual identity refers to having both the identity of your country of origin and that of your country of residence. Is it a burden or a gift to have part of your soul belong to your culture of origin and part of it to the host culture?
A roundtable discussion with the Native Immigrant collective will take place on Sunday, May 7 at 2 pm.

Ivan Atehortua is born in Colombia. Under the pseudonym Solal Comics, he experiments with caricature, collage and urban art, among other techniques.

CARLOS ROJAS
Carlos Rojas is a Mexican-born artist. His research is about how identity is impacted by migration. He uses ceramics, sculpture, painting, stop-motion animation, fibre, glass and metal to communicate his ideas. His work is inspired by Pop and Contemporary art, and Mexican culture.

DENISE A. OLIVARES
Denise A. Olivares is a Chilean-born interdisciplinary artist. Appearing in numerous Montreal-based exhibitions since 2008, her work in textile art and installation emerged with a focus on themes of memory and identity, inspired by her family’s history and culture.

MARG BOYLE
Marg Boyle is an artist with Mi’kmaq, Abenaki, European and African roots. She has been an art educator and curator for 35 years. Her artwork combines traditional Indigenous techniques and contemporary art approaches.

SARABETH TRIVIÑO
Sarabeth Triviño is a textile artist of Chilean origin who arrived in Montreal in 2007. She joined the ranks of the Conseil des métiers d’arts du Québec the following year. In 2017, she graduated with a bachelor in visual and media arts from UQAM, while continuing to develop her practice as a textile artist. For her, the revival of this ancestral activity primarily associated with women in a domestic context is a way to generate a contemporary feminist discourse.
Migrations
Composed of 35 textile sculptures that represent the human figure of persons, this installation invites residents to immerse themselves in the different stories of immigrants who are living in Montreal and who form part of this cosmopolitan city.

EMANUELLE DUFOUR
In addition to being an illustrator and facilitator for various graphics projects realized in collaboration with different Indigenous associations and groups, Emanuelle Dufour has authored the graphic novel C’est le Québec qui est né dans mon pays!, which constitutes the core of her thesis and was co-created with over 50 Indigenous and Allochthonous contributors. She is employed as an ED&I pedagogical counsellor at Collège Ahuntsic, is a lecturer for Université de Montréal’s advanced graduate diploma program in Indigenous stories and media and at UQAT’s École d’études autochtones, and is currently undertaking postdoctoral studies at the Centre interuniversitaire d’études en recherches autochtones (CIÉRA).

Told from the viewpoint of her own experiences and also that of numerous Indigenous and Allochthonous persons, this polyphonic work explores the legacy of our colonial unconscious and sheds light on narratives too long ignored. And while systemic racism still shapes the Indigenous condition, this notebook of encounters shows the work done by communities to reappropriate their languages, their ancestral know-how and their identities.

The goal of this project was to encourage the francization of immigrants and to value their experience by producing a collection of autobiographical testimonies of people from various countries, in the form of graphic novels.

ADRIANA GARCIA CRUZ
Adriana Garcia Cruz is a Colombian-born photographer based in Montreal since 2006. Most of her work is devoted to portraiture. For her, to photograph the human is to access that which hides in each of us. With the sensitivity that characterizes her, she explores the depths of the soul and celebrates the intimate.
Lignée
The work is based on a photograph from the artist’s family archives, taken in a studio in Colombia in the 1940s. The photograph’s large format helps bring out numerous details in the setting, the objects and Adriana’s grandmother. Lignée pays tribute to this strong, independent woman, from whom Adriana has inherited her gentle nature and love of traditional know-how such as sewing, cooking and weaving, techniques passed on from generation to generation in her family.

This exhibition the fruit of an intercultural and intergenerational cultural mediation initiative bringing together people from an immigration background and residents of the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood. This participative project seeks to foster empathy and social inclusivity within a diverse community.
