Friday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m., under a heated tent
To celebrate culture as a tool for political influence, the Journées québécoises de la solidarité internationale (JQSI) 2017 will feature a Closing Gala on Friday, November 17 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. under a tent at Place Émilie-Gamelin. Thus making them ATSA's guests! In a cabaret-style production, the public will enjoy artists Samian with DJ Horg, La Bronze, Jean-François Lessard, vocal ensemble Au Chœur des refrains, Geneviève Rochette, Jacques Goldstyn (BORIS), Wapikoni mobile and Zuruba, with hosts Fred Dubé and Manal Drissi, spokespersons for the 21st JQSI.
This collaboration writes a new chapter in the friendship between the JQSI and ATSA. Indeed, Annie Roy and Pierre Allard were the spokespersons for the 2011 edition dedicated to citizen engagement!
Each autumn since 1996, the Association québécoise des organismes de coopération internationale (AQOCI) organizes the JQSI with some 20 Québec-based organizations for international solidarity and cooperation. The ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie (MRIF) provides financial support for the JQSI. During the JQSI, the public is invited to participate in numerous activities that build awareness of the issues related to international solidarity.
This year, the JQSI is exploring the role culture plays in our understanding of international issues. Depending on the cultural works with which we come into contact, we can either be persuaded to believe that economic, political and military power is based on unquestionable entitlement, or we can acknowledge that a number of human issues deserve far greater attention and more citizen mobilization.
