DANCE
La Poésie des Ailleurs by Sylvain
Poirier
November Saturday 24 and
Sunday 25 at 1:30 PM and 8 PM
After dancing for countless contemporary choreographers, Sylvain Poirier
pursues his choreographic muse for his own burgeoning dance company,
Danse Sylvain Danse. For over a year, he has been working on a group
of projects united under the title La Poésie des Ailleurs.
His aim is to make the art form more accessible through the dissemination
of his works through alternative means, such as free Webcasts. For État
d’Urgence, Poirier’s dance will lively up different parts
of the event site, where one least expects it. He will thus bring his
Partout Ailleurs project to its logical conclusion. Think of it as poetry
without words, or balm for the soul.

Patch Work by Catherine Tardif
Workshop: Friday 23 1-4
PM
Show: Friday 23 at 7:30 PM
Catherine
Tardif has been active on Montreal’s dance and theatre scene as
a choreographer and dancer since the early 80s. As an interpreter, she
has performed for the Fondation Jean Pierre Perreault, Carbone 14, Le
Carré des Lombes, Cas Public, as well as for Fortier Danse Création
and Montréal Danse, for which she also acted as guest choreographer.
Her work as choreographer has been performed in Europe, the United States
and Canada. She also has to her credit numerous collaborations with
the theatre, including involvement as co-designer and interpreter for
the Ex Machina company, under the direction of Robert Lepage. March
2001 saw the founding of the company Et Marianne et Simon, in which
she occupied the functions of artistic director and choreographer. From
July to December 2003, she took part in a scholarship residency at the
Studio du Québec in Paris.
In collaboration with dancer Marc Boivin, a longtime accomplice, and
young Torontian visual artist jenna maclellan, Tardif’s Patch
Work is inspired by the improvisational “meanderings” executed
by participants in a “data harvesting” workshop and reprised
by the participants themselves along with Catherine and Marc.
