La Traversée saw the light of day in 2006. This choreography for humans has been performed in France and Ecuador, with upcoming shows in Japan. Taking a cue from its surroundings, the dance unfolds much like the motion of a school of fish. In preparation for the performance at État d'Urgence, a series of initial rehearsals was held with the youths from Chez Pops, the circle then expanding to include anyone interested in getting involved (professional and amateur dancers, children, teens, adults, street people -- in short, people of all backgrounds) in a dance performed in unison to the sound of drums, a sequence of steps repeated mantra-like. Join in!
Several rehearsal sessions are open to members of the public wishing to be a part of La Traversée, beginning November 4, and then from November 27 on at Place Émilie-Gamelin, all culminating in the performance on Sunday the 30th at 3:30 PM. To register, visitwww.lamadeo.com

Léna Massaini and Katya Montaignac

Thursday, Nov. 27, Friday, Nov. 28 and Saturday, Nov. 29 at 3:30 PM
Choreography by Katya Montaignac featuring a number of dance tableaus in an everyday setting. Silent and slow, the tableaux act in counterpoint to the hectic rhythm of city life. Each choreographed sequence discreetly enters the public realm as a series of invisible dances; only attentive or curious passers-by notice what is going on, while the others, too distracted or rushed, cross through the various tableaux with the utmost indifference, unwittingly playing the role of walk-on extras.
